The Physical Therapists at Quality Touch Physical Therapy & Wellness are skilled at treating various pelvic floor conditions for those of ALL GENDERS. We collect the details of your medical history and use that information, along with the data from the physical assessment to create your unique treatment plan to help improve those symptoms which brought you to us. We understand that this area of the body can be quite difficult to understand and have provided a few questions below to help you better grasp what you may be experiencing:
What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is a collection of muscles and other structures that make up the lower aspect of the pelvis. These not only provide support but are responsible for bowel, bladder, sexual and reproductive function.
What is pelvic floor physical therapy?
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of physical therapy focused on the muscles, connective tissues, nerves, and joints that support the bladder, bowel, sexual/reproductive organs, and core. Pelvic floor PT can help address concerns of those systems. It can also be used proactively to promote pelvic wellness, prepare for pregnancy and birth, optimize movement and function, support healthy aging, and help individuals maintain their quality of life before symptoms arise.
How can you recognize pelvic floor symptoms?
Symptoms of this complex system may include (but aren't limited to): leaking urine/feces/or gas, difficulty eliminating urine or feces, frequent trips to the bathroom to urinate or defecate, pain with arousal/intercourse/orgasm, difficulty achieving arousal and/or orgasm, pain attempting insertion of menstrual products, pain with pelvic exams, pain/discomfort/or 'tightness' of the abdomen or genitals, and heaviness of the pelvic floor following childbirth.
